Our Mission

Our menstrual cycles are a natural part of life. Yet for many of us, menstruation can be a source of discomfort, anxiety, and even shame. We may even feel like our bodies are betraying us, or that we are somehow broken. 

We want to change that narrative. We believe that we all deserve to experience comfort, confidence, and a sense of connection throughout the phases of our menstrual cycle. Hooyo, our natural soothing body oil is made with a curated blend of organic essential oils that have been traditionally used to holistically support menstrual health and promote relaxation and well-being.

Hooyo, means "mother" in Somali, embodies the nurturing and empowering spirit that connects us to the wisdom passed from one generation to another. By applying Hooyo's soothing blend, we are not just treating our bodies; we are honoring the strength of those who came before us. We are reconnecting with our roots and embracing the cyclical rhythm of nature that exists within us all.

Have you ever felt like your body was betraying you during that time of the month? I've been there – grappling with cramps, anxiety, and feeling utterly lost in the shuffle of conventional medical solutions.

Seeking a gentler path, I embarked on a journey of discovery, delving into ancient practices and connecting with over 200 women to hear their stories.

What I found was eye-opening: period pain isn't something we should just endure; it's a shared struggle that deserves attention.

Inspired by my Somali heritage, my Hooyo's (mother's) wisdom, and my Ayeeyo's (grandmother's) legacy as a traditional healer, I turned to the healing power of nature.

With my background in design and a passion for holistic wellness, I created Hooyo – a natural soothing body oil crafted to ease the ebbs and flows of your menstrual cycle,
co-created with our incredible community.
